Did you know that "Amateur" comes from the French verbe "aimer" (to love), so when one is an amateur one does something out of love, not out of duty. I think that's a nice interpretation (and of course the fact that this is not what I do for a living ;).

Hmmm... we are considering a pond.
Just to have this sort of thing and we no longer have a dog who loved water.
I don't know of a single flower that is more beautiful than a pond lily floating on the water.

I love water lilies. So far I haven't seen too many around here at the botanical garden, but the Brooklyn Botanical Garden has a magnificent collection. Very nice.
